L O G L I N E

Hyun-ju, who lost her lover to death, one day discovers that her deceased lover's face has grown in a flowerpot at her flower shop.

S Y N O P S I S

Hyun-ju's flower shop had been closed for some time following the death of her lover, Do-yoon. When she reopened the shop to tidy up, she discovered human lips sprouting from the soil in a flowerpot. They were undoubtedly the lips of the deceased Do-yoon. Unable to believe this reunion, Hyun-ju carefully watered and cared for the plant, and a strange daily life shared only by the two of them began.

Hyun-ju wrapped Do-yoon's face in a paper bag and headed to the place where the two had their last date. Eventually, Hyun-ju decided to let Do-yoon go completely and headed to a secluded mountain. She smashed the flowerpot and buried Do-yoon's face deep in the cold ground. The moment Do-yoon, rooted in the soil, peacefully closed his eyes, his grotesque face transformed into a small plant bathed in warm sunlight...

D I R E C T O R ' S

While Reporting deals with death within the conventions of the fantasy genre, its emotions are thoroughly rooted in reality. The fantastical premise of a "face growing in a flowerpot" serves as a realistic and physical metaphor that visualizes the inner state of being unable to accept a breakup.

To realize this emotional fantasy, a directorial approach combining live-action filming with generative AI was chosen.

The grotesqueness inherent in AI—often referred to as the "uncanny valley"—intertwines with the setting of the "face growing in a flowerpot," transforming an element that could be perceived as a weakness into a directorial strength.

This work does not merely showcase AI technology; rather, it utilizes it as an emotional device embedded within the narrative. Through this, the film aims to construct unique and moving imagery rarely seen in conventional short films.
